Biography

I was raised near Inverness in the North of Scotland, where I started learning the guitar at age 10 and started performing with live bands at age 14. I primarily played rock, shred and metal guitar, until moving to Edinburgh in 2009, where I also focused largely on acoustic instrumental and singer songwriter genres.

During my time in Edinburgh, I played and wrote in multiple different projects from folk, psychedelic post-rock and alternative to progressive metal. Through these projects I have recorded and released several EPs and Albums, and played multiple festival appearances across Scotland, both with band and solo.

Since 2012 I have also studied and performed classical guitar, in the last few years moving into flamenco as well. Since 2020 I have been living in the Netherlands, and I am currently teaching in Leiderdorp.

Methodology

I have been teaching the guitar for several years and it is a true passion in my life. Little makes me happier than to see my students progressing towards their musical goals and developing their own artistry.

I like to base the lessons around the artists and songs that you choose yourself, and create a path together of how you would like to learn the guitar.

I have a strong background in music theory, and if the student wishes, this can be an integral part of the lessons. I personally like to teach theory through the songs you have chosen to learn, analysing what we are playing and through this developing your own intuitive theory understanding, within relation to your chosen genres of music. Although I am perfectly aware that many students do not feel connected with learning music theory, in which case we can focus more purely on the playing and performance aspects.
